Ryo Ishikawa suffered from a strong wind from the ocean and finished the first day in the tie for 21st place at a two-under-par. But he successfully moved up to the tie for 3rd place at seven-under total, by doing a good job for his short games on the second day. In the final round on the third day, he closed on the top being just three strokes behind despite of moving down by two places from the tie for third place to the tie for fifth place. Getting a chance of his first winning in the US PGA tour, he reached the final day. The final day, March 11, marked one year since the Great East Japan Earthquake hit eastern Japan. Ryo took a moment of silence with staff members for the victims of this earthquake at the first tee immediately before the start at 12:20 pm. His shots including drives did not seem to be in full swing, being four strokes behind the top when he finished the front side. But he continued to play having a passion for carrying his feelings across the ocean (to Japan) through his performance. He caught up fiercely toward the end of the round, holing out at the tie for the first place with a 14-under total. He regretfully ended up in being overtaken by George Mcneill who had been following after him. However, Ryo finished his round with the sole possession of second place, which is the best ever result in his career of the PGA tour.
