Ryo Ishikawa started his golf career when his father took him to a golf driving range at the age of six.
He achieved stirring performance in his junior golf years. In 2007, as a high school student, Ryo entered the limelight by becoming the youngest winner of the Munshingwear Open KSB Cup, where he played in one of the tournaments on the Japan Golf Tour for the first time, at the age of 15 years and 8 months.
He announced his decision to turn professional in January 2008, and became a professional golfer affiliated with Panasonic.
In his first year as a professional, he reached 5th position in the Japanese money ranking and became the youngest 100-million-yen golfer, with the winning of the mynavi ABC Championship for the first time in his professional golf career in November, earning prize money over 100 million yen.
In 2009, his second year as a professional, Ryo made appearances in multiple overseas tournaments including the Masters.
His achievements over the course of the year included four cumulative victories and total winnings that exceeded 180 million yen, making him the youngest player in golf history to be crowned money leader.
In May 2010, complementing Ryo's victory in The Crowns was the distinction of being officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the golfer to achieve the lowest number of strokes on the final day of a world tournament with an astonishing 58 strokes.
In 2011, although failed to win, he achieved another hole in one in the Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters championship, which was his second hole in one in his tour career since the Panasonic OPEN in 2010.
He also achieved solid results by reaching the tie for 20th place in The Masters Tournament and finishing in the tie for 4th place in the WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS BRIDGESTONE INVITATIONAL, which brought him a step closer to winning in major overseas tournaments.
